in-nahla.com - hoaxes

Don't forward that email. Before you forward an email that says, 'please forward this email', do this:
  1. READ it. Is it appropriate? Can you tell right away if it is false or not? When writing letters required stamps, penmanship, or at least a typewriter, nobody would dash off something they hadn't read and send it to 100 close friends - unless it was important.
  2. Do some homework. Do a web search. Let's take an example. Suppose you get this in the mail:
Some person or persons have been affixing hypodermic needles to the underside of gas pump handles. These needles appear to be infected with HIV positive blood. In the Jacksonville area alone there have been 17 cases of people being stuck by these needles over the past five months.
OK. Do a google search for some of the important words:
Does it come up with nothing (noone has heard of this)? Does it come up with angry sites by concerned citizens? No: it comes up with page after page about how this is a hoax. Check which sites are listed- do they seem reputable? Try searching at the sites listed at the bottom of this page.
  3. Now.. if you still want to send out the email - go ahead.
  4. Thank you for listening.
